The congress member's case comes at the likely tail end of a surge in coronavirus cases fueled by the omicron variant.

At the height of the surge, Washington D.C. had become the highest-risk place for COVID-19 infection in the nation, according to reports from the time.

In Brooklyn, the coronavirus surge has also closed down the office of a local assembly member and reached Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, who is from the borough.

Velázquez said Tuesday that she has had all three doses of the vaccine and encouraged New Yorkers to do the same. Her office included a link of resources for vaccines and testing sites in the city.
