Prospect Park Fire [UPDATED]: Blaze Breaks Out Sunday Afternoon

Firefighters rushed to Prospect Park on Sunday afternoon to combat a small blaze inside the park.

PROSPECT PARK, BROOKLYN — Firefighters rushed to the scene of a fire in Prospect Park on Sunday afternoon, as park-goers were enjoying one of the warmest, sunniest days of the early spring so far.

The blaze was just a small brush fire, according to several people in the park — including City Councilman Brad Lander — who took to social media as sirens blared on an otherwise serene day in Brooklyn's biggest green space.

Firefighters responded to Prospect Park West and 9th Street, an FDNY spokesman told Patch, at around 3:15 on Sunday afternoon. The fire was out by about 6, the spokesman said.

He said it wasn't clear exactly how big the blaze was, but nobody was injured and the fire marshal has been notified.

A spokeswoman for the Prospect Park Alliance told Patch on Monday morning it had no further information.

One woman, on a Facebook page for Park Slope parents, said her kid's little league game was delayed. It's unclear if anyone was injured.
