Five More Burglaries in Park Slope

The burglaries just won’t stop.

Last week, according to the 78th precinct’s crime analysis department, there were five more burglaries—adding to the .

Most of the buildings that were robbed in the most recent string were apartment buildings. In almost every case, the burglary or burglars entered the apartment through an unlocked back window.

The first incident, which occurred on March 23, a burglar entered an Eighth Avenue apartment through the back kitchen window and stole cash, a laptop and other electronics.

The 38-year-old victim told police that he left his kitchen window open in his apartment between 12th and 13th streets, on March 23 at 5 a.m. When he returned on March 26 around 15:30 p.m., he realized that the burglar stole $200 in cash, a 15-inch MacBook Pro, a Cannon 5D camera and an Asus Transformer tablet.

The second incident, which occurred on March 27, a crook forced a front door open to a Fifth Avenue apartment and stole a pair of glasses and a necklace.

The 22-year-old victim told police that a crook barged through her front door, between Sackett and Union streets, some time between 9 a.m. and 8:50 p.m. and stole a pair of eyeglasses and a gray metal necklace.

Sometime between March 27 and 29, another crook climbed through another back window in an apartment on Sixth Street and stole two laptops, a game console and other electronics.

The 23-year-old victim told police that she left her apartment, between Fourth and Fifth avenues, on March 27 at 6:40 p.m. and returned on March 29 at around 8:40 p.m. Upon her arrival she realized that a crook climbed through her window and stole her MacBook Pro, Xbox 360, Den Laptop and iBook G4 for a total of $2,600. The crook exited through the front door.

The fourth incident did not follow the same pattern. On March 28, a sneaky thief broke in to an apartment on Seventh Street and made off with a diamond ring, a gold necklace and numerous other types of jewelry totaling almost $9,000.

The 46-year-old victim told police that she returned to her apartment, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, at around 11:45 a.m. when she heard a noise on her second floor. She said “Hello” and then heard footsteps and then noticed a gold sedan take off eastbound on Seventh Street.

Upon investigation, it was not clear how the thief entered the home for there are no signs of forced entry or pry marks. The thief made off with a diamond and sapphire ring, three necklaces, two pairs of earrings, three rings and a gold necklace, totaling $8,800.

The fifth burglary occurred on March 29, when a thief climbed through an unlocked window of a Fourth Avenue dance studio and made off with a lock box filled with $1,000.

The owner of , between Bergen and Dean streets, told police that the alarm was disconnected and the back window was closed, but not locked. Between 3:44 a.m. and 3:54 a.m. a man standing 5-foot-6 climbed through the window and stole the tan lock box with $1,000 in cash inside and left through the same window.

The Commanding Office of the 78th precinct, Captain Michael Ameri, told Patch last week that he has assigned more of his policemen to the day shift to help catch the criminals.

He also said Slopers should make sure their back windows are closed and locked. But he had more advice:

“The most important thing to do as a neighbor is to call us if you see someone on the fire escape, if you hear something unusual or even if your neighbors dog is barking for 30 minutes during the day,” Ameri said.
