Four Crafty Burglaries in Three Days in Park Slope

Park Slope got hit with four burglaries where the thieves (or thief) broke in to apartments with crafty means last week.

The first incident on Feb. 17 occurred on 13th Street where a thrifty crook climbed the fire escape and then removed the air conditioner out of the back window and lifted a laptop and a game console. 

The victim told police that the thief must have entered the house sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. The thief made off with the victim’s Apple computer and an Xbox. Neighbors told police that they did not hear anything unusual.

The second incident occurred on the same day when another crafty crook picked the front door of an apartment on Fifth Avenue and made off with a laptop and credit cards.

The victim told police that she left her house, between 11th and 12th streets, at 7:50 a.m. and returned at around 6:50 p.m. to find that her front door’s lock was picked open and her Macbook laptop and credit cards were missing.

The third incident on Feb. 17 occurred on 12th Street where a burglar walked in through a woman’s front door and stole electronics, jewelry and a couple of passports. 

The victim said that she may have left the door unlocked, between Eighth Avenue and Prospect Park West, before leaving at around 5 p.m. When she came back an hour later she realized that her iPad, wedding ring, three US passports, a diamond pin, pearl, gold and sapphire earrings and other jewelry where gone.

The fourth incident, on Feb. 19, was the most daring. A MacGyver-like criminal used a drill to open the front door of Anthony’s Pizza on Seventh Avenue and stole almost $800.

The owner of the restaurant, between 14th and 15th streets, told police that sometime between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m. a burglar drilled out the lock of the front door and stole $760. Unfortunately, the alarm was not armed and the crook got away without being noticed.
