French Bulldog Is Park Slope's Top Dog, Ranking Finds

The scrunch-faced pooch is also the most popular dog breed in New York City, according to the American Kennel Club.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — What adorable flat-faced pooch with breathing problems is Park Slope's top dog?

The French Bulldog is not only the most popular dog breed in Park Slope, but also all of New York City, according to a new ranking by the American Kennel Club.

It's the ninth straight year that Frenchies snagged the top spot for the city in the American Kennel Club's rankings. But the breed proved the most popular pooch in the U.S. for the first time.

"New Yorkers have loved Frenchies for almost a decade and the rest of the nation has finally caught up," said Gina DiNardo, executive secretary for the American Kennel Club, in a statement.

"The breed is known for being adaptable to different living environments, making it a great companion for city dwellers."

The city's top five dog breeds for 2022 were:

  1. French Bulldog
  2. Poodle
  3. Golden Retriever
  4. Bulldog
  5. German Shepherd Dog

The ranking also found these communities are also French neighborhoods: Astoria, the East Village, FiDi, Riverdale and Washington Heights.
