PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A scoop of Van Leeuwen's cult-favorite ice cream usually sets New Yorkers back about $5 (at minimum), but on Thursday the shop is giving out $1 scoops at the grand opening of its Park Slope outpost.

The soon-to-be Park Slope shop, located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Second Street, will open at noon on March 10, and hand out $1 scoops of all of its wacky made-from-scratch flavors (dairy and vegan alike) from 1 to 3 p.m.

Opening day will also include free swag for the first 100 customers, a gift card giveaway from 3 p.m. to closing (11 p.m.), and an exclusive espresso martini-flavored ice cream to mark the opening, the brand announced.

"We've spent the last two years expanding Van Leeuwen into new cities like Philadelphia and Houston, but we're ready to come back and give Brooklyn some more love," said co-founder and CEO Ben Van Leeuwen.

This week has already included a lot of love for Park Slope, since Van Leeuwen parked its ice cream truck in the neighborhood on Monday and handed out free scoops in anticipation of the opening — its first in NYC since the onset of the pandemic.

The Park Slope shop, located at 304 Fifth Avenue (at a once-bar-turned-print-shop), will be open from noon to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

After the opening day festivities subside, the shop will serve all of the Van Leeuwen favorites, including sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, root beer floats, seasonal ice cream flavors, and milkshakes.
