Hiller & Moon Closes After 20 Years In Park Slope
"We had hoped to continue, but now realize it's too big a task," reads a message on the shop's Instagram page.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Owners of the specialty neighborhood grocer Hiller & Moon officially closed their doors after 20 years of business in Park Slope.
"This is a message of thanks," the shop wrote in an instagram post. "We are thoroughly grateful, humbled, and thankful to all of you for your support."
The closure comes months after the the specialty gourmet food shop suffered a debilitating fire, gutting the insides of the shop at 814 Union St., in May.

The owners had hoped to rebuild and reopen, even raising over $37,000 in a GoFundMe started by a friend.
But it seems the fire was too much for the beloved shop to recover from.

"Until recently we had hoped to continue, but now realize it's too big a task," they wrote, "with too many hurdles."
The shop did not respond to Patch's request for comment.
After last spring's fire, owner Ted Matern said that he was humbled by the community support after the tragic blaze.
“I’ve been very heartened by all the support and people stopping me on the street nearly every block to offer their best wishes. It’s amazing,” Matern told The Post.
According to the Post's article, Matern opened Hiller & Moon — originally called Blue Apron — after spending 40 year in the food industry, many of them spent managing another late specialty food shop, Dean & DeLuca.
His daughter told the paper that Matern wanted to bring a similar shop to his longtime home of Park Slope.
"After 20 years it has been a difficult decision to make," the store's post concludes.
"We especially miss the small visits and chats throughout the day catching up on... whatever. Thank you all."
