Anticipated Park Slope Eatery 'Masalawala And Sons' Opens Thursday
Masalawala and Sons promises to bring some of the owner's India to Fifth and Fifth.
PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Slopers better start lining up a hot new Indian restaurant about to open in the neighborhood.
Acclaimed chef Chintan Pandya and restaurateur Roni Mazumdar will open their next venture, Masalawala and Sons, tomorrow at 365 Fifth Ave., the reservation section of their website shows.
Part restaurant, part retail store, the establishment is a throwback to an eatery Mazumdar operated with his father for 10 years and looks to link home-cooked with fine dining.

Over half of the menu is inspired by Mazumdar family recipes — with refinement from Pandya — and omits some of the standards that many NYC Indian restaurants carry, according to Eater.
Some of the unique dishes that promise to entice Brooklynites taste buds include sabudana vada, a crisp, Indian snack made from tapioca and potato, Kosha mangsho, a braised lamb cooked in a dark masala and the exclusive macher dim, a fish roe dish that will be limited to no more than seven orders a day due to sourcing challenges, according to Eater.

Mazumdar told Eater that chef “Chintan takes a dish that is so humble and reaches an absolute level of perfection which is what I don’t think we were able to achieve in the past.”
The restaurant will have seating for 30 hungry patrons inside and another 30 outside.
A word to the wise from the restaurant website:
"PS - Take a look at the curated pantry shelves that are carrying spices, chocolates, coffee etc. from some of the most exciting brands in the country."
