Juneteenth 2022: What's Open, Closed For The Holiday In New York City

Juneteenth falls on a Sunday this year, so the federal holiday will be commemorated Monday. Here's what's open and what's closed in NYC.

NEW YORK CITY, NY — Because Juneteenth — observed on June 19 in commemoration of the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned they were finally free — falls on a Sunday this year, the federal holiday will be celebrated Monday.

This year New York City will honor the holiday with concerts centering Black artists, variety shows featuring Black performers, Black history events, and more.

The holiday weekend also means grappling with an array of logistics as many offices will be closed and the transit schedule will be different than usual.
