Juneteenth Festivities Coming To Park Slope's Open Streets
Black-owned businesses along Fifth Avenue will host Juneteenth-themed celebrations Saturday.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Juneteenth is coming to Park Slope's (open) streets.
A slate of Juneteenth celebrations will be part of Saturday's Open Streets lineup for the first time, organizers said.
Three Black business owners along Fifth Avenue helped organize diversity-focused events from stilt walking, spoken word and dance.

"We were pleased to help organize and fund it this year, and look forward to building on it in coming years," said Joanna Tallantire, executive director of Park Slope's Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District.
Juneteenth itself is Sunday, June 19. It commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.

Open Streets stretch along Fifth Avenue from Bergen to Eighth streets in various sections from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Juneteenth activities will run from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. They are, along with their associated businesses, according to organizers:
- Juneteenth Haitian Dance Class + Performance — Bonbon Lakay, 351 Fifth Ave.
- Juneteenth Stilt Walkers — Negril BK, 256 Fifth Ave.
- Juneteenth Kids Fun, Spoken Word + Music — BK9, 62 Fifth Ave.
Other Open Streets events this weekend will be:
- Open Streets Badass Dog Adoption — find your new best friend, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Fifth Avenue between First and Second streets
- Open Streets StreetLab BUILD Station Pop-Up — come build with Legos, MagnaTiles + more, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. along Fifth Avenue between Berkeley and Lincoln places
