Lunar New Year Celebration Returning To Park Slope's Seventh Ave

This event was postponed due to the snow and will now take place Saturday, Feb. 5 in two sessions: from 3 to 4 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m. The location remains the same.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A Lunar New Year celebration is on its way back to Seventh Avenue next week.

The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music has scheduled its annual outdoor Lunar New Year event for next Saturday, bringing Cantonese story time, a lion dance and Chinese music to its garden and the block surrounding its Seventh Avenue brownstone.

The event, which is free for the public, will kick off at 2 p.m. and ring in the Year of the Tiger.

WHEN: Saturday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m.

WHERE: The BKCM Garden and the building's surrounding block. The conservatory is working on spreading out the event given a large amount of interest, according to its website.

WHAT: The afternoon will include traditional and contemporary Chinese music, a lion dance, crafts, calligraphy and much more.

  • Children's Chinese Book Garden
  • Chinese Theatre Works
  • BKCM faculty member Annie Chen, a vocalist, composer and bandleader originally from Beijing, China.

  • Storytime in Mandarin with Babyda’s Mandarin Story Time host Yijia Bu

HOW: Check BKCM's website for information about how to RSVP. Though there is no cost for this event, donations are encouraged. All attendees will be required to wear masks.
