Meet Park Slope's Newest Neighborhood Bistro: Hilltop Tavern

PARK SLOPE, NY — Hilltop's owners want their third Park Slope venture to be a jack-of-all-trades for neighborhood dining — the perfect spot for a first date, a family dinner, brunch, a quick beer or a sweet treat.

With Park Slope hits Alchemy and Hamilton's under her belt, Georgia Read has joined forces once again with her husband Kevin Read and brother Osie Willmont to open Hilltop Tavern on Prospect Park West at Prospect Avenue.

The neighborhood American bistro will serve a menu constructed by the chef who brought Hamilton's its beloved artichoke salad, featuring old favorites and new additions like a miso salmon dish with lentils.

With exposed brick and pews from a church in New Jersey, the restaurant is at once comfortable and lively, creating a perfect catch-all neighborhood vibe, Read said. Like she did Alchemy and Hamilton's, Read put Hilltop together alongside her brother and husband.

A couple weeks after opening, the new spot is a hit — it's been "100 percent positive feedback," Read said.

The Park Slope restauranteurs had not intended to open a third so soon — but Read always had her eyes on 256 Prospect Park West, once home to a French bistro and Windsor Tavern, she said. When the location opened up, it was a no-brainer.

"I had always loved that location," said Read.

Windsor Tavern, the previous owner of the Prospect Park West spot, closed in October, 2023.

"We are excited to pass the Tavern Torch on to one of our local restaurant owners to allow them to continue to build on their legacy and contribute to the success of this neighborhood," the owners wrote on Instagram.

Hilltop Tavern is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day serving brunch, lunch and dinner.
