BROOKLYN, NY — A live performance-slash-documentary is coming to Brooklyn this weekend.

"32 Sounds," an immersive documentary film created by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Sam Green, debuted earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival — where Green's work has been described as "mind blowing" — and is coming to the Brooklyn Academy of Music from Thursday through Saturday.

Like a typical movie screening, "32 Sounds" will be shown in a theater in front of a screen, but the performance is atypical in every other way — through headphones, viewers will hear Green's in-person narration woven together with a live soundtrack by DJ musician JD Samson.

This kind of live cinematic performance is the hallmark of Green's work, but, unlike his previous work, "32 Sounds" specifically focuses on sounds (as its name suggests).

The piece includes 32 field recordings connected together with poetic visuals and JD Samson's live soundtrack for what BAM describes as a "poignant aural-visual landscape."

"Join this collective experience with open ears, and never hear the world the same way again," the performing arts venue writes.

"32 Sounds" will show six times over this weekend, with performances at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Tickets start at $35 apiece with discounts available for BAM members.
