This Park Slope-Area Bar Is One Of Best In North America: Ranking

BOERUM HILL, BROOKLYN — A beloved Boerum Hill cocktail spot is one of the best bars in North America, according to a new ranking.

The Clover Club, a mainstay on Smith Street, ranked 46th on the "North America's 50 Best Bars" list released last week.

And while the bar's name may conjure the good fortune of a four-leaf clover, the ranking makes clear it wasn't luck that landed it a spot on the list. It's a "true masterpiece," the ranking argues.

"The beautiful bar does not just serve classic cocktails, it fully embodies classic style," the ranking states.

"Adorned with leather chairs, dark woods, exposed-brick walls, pressed-tin ceilings and a roaring fireplace, drinks here illicit the old-time elegance of bygone New York bars."

Many Park Slopers are undoubtedly familiar with The Clover Club.

The bar billed as "part neighborhood institution, part destination cocktail bar" has been on Smith Street near Baltic Street since 2008, according to its website.

Slopers who ride the F train can find the bar a stone's throw from the line's Bergen Street station.

The ranking by "Top 50" rhapsodizes about the libations matching the spot's ambience, in addition to its elevated bar plates.

"The titular Clover Club (gin, dry vermouth, lemon, raspberry syrup and egg white) helms a list of drinks with a century of staying power," the ranking states. "Cocktail aficionados will delight in the nine-section menu, boasting historic lists of Sours and Cobblers next to classic Collins, Royales and more. Reiner’s modern classics like the Willow’s Fizz (gin, lavender, grapefruit and soda) round out the list."

Twelve New York City bars made — and topped — the list. But The Clover Club was one of only two Brooklyn joints on it.
