Park Slope Art Gallery Will Raise Money To Protect Journalists

Where and when to find the installation this weekend.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — An art exhibit in Park Slope this weekend is raising money for the Committee to Protect Journalists, following a month-plus of attacks on a free press from President Trump since he's been in office.

"'Marked Urgent' – An Exhibition in Defense of Free Press" asked artists to submit work "on paper associated with any and all types of correspondence and communication," including envelopes, letterhead, post-it notes and postcards.

"We have been closely following the current administration’s dismissive treatment of one of our most powerful constitutional rights: freedom of expression as protected by the First Amendment, namely, free press and the recent attempts to silence and delegitimize their voice," an announcement about the exhibition said.

"Branded as 'the opposition party; and purveyors of 'fake news,' the media has been aggressively undermined by the Trump administration in an attempt to minimize their credibility and influence over the American public. Now, more than ever, we need to empower journalists to hold our government accountable and to provide us with the facts we need to remain informed and involved citizens."

The art will be on display this Friday through Sunday, Feb. 24 through Feb. 26, at the Ground Floor Gallery on Fifth Street, between Fourth and Fifth Avenues. An opening reception will be held Friday night from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
