Park Slope Fifth Avenue Street Fair Returns Sunday

The "Fabulous Fifth Avenue Street Fair" runs from Sterling Street to 12th Street through the neighborhood.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Park Slope's Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District is bringing back its annual "Fabulous Fifth Avenue Street Fair" this weekend, with plenty of food, drinks and activities to keep the neighborhood entertained for the day.

The street fair takes place Sunday, from Sterling Street to 12th Street from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. — rain or shine. It features a host of vendors, live music and classes running along the major neighborhood thoroughfare.

"We do a lot of work to get our local shops and restaurants and bars to come out," Mark Caserta, the executive director of the Park Slope Fifth Avenue B.I.D., told Patch. "We wouldn’t really value the fair as something that’s outside business all coming in. It's the way we prefer it. It's different and unique and fun and a good way to spend the day."

A good chunk of the vendors will largely include local businesses from Community District 6, which encompasses Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Red Hook, Gowanus and Park Slope.

"We have generally about 45 percent of the vendors are from the neighborhood, either from the avenue or the nearby area," Caserta said. "That’s different from a lot of the street fairs you see in the city."

And fair-goers should be in for a nice day, when temperatures are expected to top out in the low 60s with sunshine and a slight breeze.
