Park Slope Florist Closes After A Decade on Fifth Avenue
Blooms on Fifth, at 431 Fifth Ave., closed last week after being in business for more than 10 years, the Brooklyn Paper reported.

PARK SLOPE, NY — A florist closed up shop last week after selling arrangements for more than a decade from their Fifth Avenue storefront to customers including Mayor Bill de Blasio, the Brooklyn Paper reported.
Blooms on Fifth, at 431 Fifth Ave., closed Wednesday after the business slowed when nearby supermarkets started selling flowers, owner Ted Giannopoulos told the Brooklyn Paper. The business also took a hit when online shops stopped giving Giannopoulos larger arrangements to fulfill in place of smaller ones that made little profit.
"I said, ‘Give me the big fish and I’ll give you the little ones free,'" Giannopoulos told the Brooklyn Paper. "But they stopped giving me the big ones, so I had to cut it down."

Giannopoulos opened Blooms in 2000, but the Fifth Avenue storefront has had a different florist inside since 1917, according to the Brooklyn Paper. Blooms was featured in the 2017 movie "Unforgettable" and HSBC Bank shot commercials inside it.
