PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Three quarters of Park Slopers in the neighborhood's major ZIP code are officially fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to city data.

The 11215 ZIP code — which covers most of Park Slope as well as parts of Gowanus — surpassed the 75-percent full vaccination rate for all ages on Thursday, making it one of only five ZIP codes in the borough to reach the milestone, data shows.

In the northern slice of the neighborhood, 11217, nearly 72 percent of residents were fully vaccinated as of Thursday, according to the data.

City officials have focused on raising the city's vaccination rate this year with a series of mandates for city workers and, most recently, for those in the private sector. Vaccines are also required for indoor dining and other activities, a requirement extended this week to children ages 5 to 11.

In Park Slope, local schools were singled out as having one of the highest demands for the first dose of the vaccine for 5 to 11 year olds, who were invited to get vaccinated at public school sites.

Health officials say the mandates are the best defense against a seasonal uptick in coronavirus cases and the new omicron variant.

Citywide seven-day positivity averages reportedly rose to the highest they've been in months recently.

The percent positivity in 11215 was lower than both the Brooklyn and citywide rates as of Thursday, data shows. In 11217, the coronavirus rates were slightly above borough and city averages.
