Park Slope Key Food Successor Is One Of BK's Top Retail Deals: Report
Lidl's deal to replace the much-missed Fifth Avenue Key Food ranked fourth on a new Real Deal ranking of top retail leases in 2022.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A plan to replace Park Slope's dear, departed Key Food with another grocery store is a literal big deal, according to a new report.
Lidl's planned Fifth Avenue location ranked number four on a list of Brooklyn's top 10 retail deals of 2022 compiled by The Real Deal.
The German discount grocer also snagged the third spot with its plan to build a store in Crown Heights.

"Lidl’s preeminence is partially because Brooklyn did not see the same volume of mega-deals as in 2021, when three separate landlords signed tenants to leases of 70,000 square feet or more," the ranking states.
"Only one did last year."

Many Park Slopers who live near the now-demolished Key Food likely will find cold comfort in the ranking.
The store's closure in 2021 to make way for a 184-unit development at 120 Fifth Ave. deprived that portion of the neighborhood of a nearby large grocery. Indeed, the development plan was controversial for years, in part because it would take a low-cost grocery option from the area.
The demolition moved forward after local groups reached an agreement with developers to bring a low-cost supermarket and around 40 income-restricted units to the project.
Developers followed through on their promise when they announced in August that Lidl would open in 2024.
