Park Slopers Hope This 'Pi Day' Won't Be Beloved Pie Shop's Last

"I am NOT giving up," Miss American Pie's owner wrote last week about money woes. Customers sweet on the shop have since stepped up.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A beloved Park Slope pie shop won't leave its customers pie-ning this "Pi Day," although locals recently learned the prospects for future ones could be on crumbly ground.

Miss American Pie along Fifth Avenue will be open Tuesday — a day when it's normally closed — to serve up its sweet and savory goods.

The special Pi Day opening comes less than a week after owner Lindsey Hill wrote an Instagram post that detailed worrisome money troubles for her business.

Hill wrote she cried that day, her birthday, because the shop didn't have enough money to keep operating, among other troubles.

"I’m not laying down or giving up, because I still believe in the mission of Miss American Pie and I still believe that there is a purpose for us here," she wrote. "I am NOT giving up. But, to be honest, I’m close."

The post by Hill — who couldn't speak to Patch Monday — drew an immediate wave of supportive reactions.

"Your pies are TOO GOOD to not share with the world," one person wrote. "And your pie shop is just TOO PERFECT to let it go!!"

"We are rooting for you Lindsey!" another wrote. "We believe in you."

After Hill's post was shared on a local Facebook page, she wrote that it "definitely" led to more visits in recent days.

The pie shop's plight also attracted the attention of NBC4, which aired a story in which Hill said she has seen an uptick of sales.

Pi Day partiers will find the shop open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Miss American Pie is holding a "Pi Day Raffle" that offers customers two chances at a sweet — or savory, if one is so inclined — prize, a sign on the shop's window states.

A $5 ticket gives pie-hungry people a chance to win one free slice and a free beverage every month for the rest of 2023. That's a more than $100 value, according to the sign.

And a $25 ticket gives one free entry into the shop's pie-making classes — a $125 value.
