Park Slope's Biggest Subway Station Is Less Dingy: Photos

MTA crews gave Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center's B and Q sections a good scrub down, add tiles, replaced burned-out lights and more.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Park Slope's biggest subway station just got a much-needed scrub down.

Straphangers who stroll through the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center B and Q sections might notice a fresh coat of paint, new light bulbs, fixed tiles and more after this past weekend.

The station is the latest to get a facelift as part of MTA's "Re-NEW-vation" project, which aims to spruce up dingy stops.

"By bringing real, tangible improvements to stations that are already impacted by planned work, we are both speeding up customer’s journeys and making the stations they use visibly better and more pleasant," said Richard Davey, the MTA city transit president, in a statement.

Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center is the 16th station to get special treatment.

Crews over a 55-hour span replaced broken tiles, repaired stairway treads, replaced burnt bulbs, added LED light fixtures, secured loose floor tiles, repainted ceilings and removed outdated signage, officials said.

They also added security cameras to the platform, officials said.
