Park Slope's Patrick Stewart Returns

Though just for the weekend, Patrick Stewart returned to Park Slope after spending much of the pandemic elsewhere.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Out of all the places in the galaxy, Patrick Stewart has landed back at his Park Slope home.

"Made it to the Block Party in my beloved neighborhood of Park Slope last weekend," Stewart wrote Thursday on his Instagram account, "the best time being together with my neighbors, who are the coolest (it is Brooklyn, after all). "

In the Instagram post, Stewart shared video and photos from a fashion block party, part of Brooklyn Fashion Week on October 9. Luckily for him, he didn't have to travel far — the party was just a mere 69 feet from his 7th Street home.

"I loved seeing their talents on display smack dab in the middle of the street," the knighted actor, best known for his many performances on the stage and on the screens in Star Trek and numerous X-Men films as the patriarch Professor X, wrote.

Stewart's post showed models wearing clothing by local designers strutting down the street surrounded by a cheering crowd.

He also shared photos of himself with Lawrence "XL" Abdullah, founder and designer of Inshallah Clothing.

Abdullah, a neighbor and friend of Stewart's, said that the timing was perfect.

"Patrick was in town for Comic Con," Abdullah said, "and he's only been here one other time since the pandemic."

Abdullah had just worked with Brooklyn Fashion Week to help tie-in the fashion show to his block's annual party.

When he told his friend across the street about the fashion show, Stewart was thrilled to hear.

"They loved it," Abdullah said, "he was the first person clapping during the show, he really enjoyed it."

After the show, Abdullah said Stewart came up to him to tell him how proud he was of him. And he also wanted to get one of his jackets, which of course Abdullah helped him out with.

While this has only been the second time since the pandemic that Stewart and his wife, Sunny Ozell, have been back to Brooklyn, Abdullah said they're eager to return.

Finding a block party just outside your front door is one of those things Stewart loves about Brooklyn, Abdullah said.

"Compared to LA," where Stewart has another home, Abdullah said, "it's so much more hectic, everyone is starstruck."

"Being in Brooklyn, it's just easy. Here, you're a neighbor," Abdullah said.

Abdullah recounted a cosmic coincidence the last time Stewart was on the block.

He ran into the actor and Ozell while he happened to be wearing a new Star Trek shirt for the first time.

"I just bought that shirt a few days before and I hadn't seen [Stewart] for three years," he said.

"I'm not even a big Star Trek guy," Abdullah said, "I'm more into X-Men."
