Passenger Steals Lyft Driver's Car In Park Slope, Police Say

A man stole a Lyft driver's car and took it on a joyride for a few blocks after getting into an argument with the driver earlier this month.

PARK SLOPE, NY — A man stole his Lyft driver's car and took it on a joyride after getting into an argument over his operator's sense of directions, according to police and reports.

The 32-year-old Lyft driver picked up a man and two women at Linden Boulevard on April 3 at about 5:35 a.m., a spokesman for the NYPD said. As they got near the destination, the man became angry and started to threaten his driver because he did not listen to his route suggestions, the Brooklyn Paper reported.

The driver parked his 2015 Toyota Camry at Plaza Street East and Flatbush Avenue and got out of his car to diffuse the situation, police said. Instead, the passenger jumped behind the wheel, made a U-turn and drove down Flatbush Avenue for about a mile before dumping it in front of a bus stop, police said.
