Police Blotter: Burglar Steals Over $5K in Electronics from 14th Street Apartment

The Electronics Burglar

A burglar stole over $5,000 in electronics from a 14th Street apartment on March 4.

The two victims, a 30-year-old man and 27-year-old man, told police that they left their apartment on 14th Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, for work at around 8:50 a.m. When the 27-year-old victim returned at around 6:20 p.m., he found that someone had rummaged through the apartment and that major electronics were missing. They told police that all doors were locked, but the back window off the fire escape was closed but not secured. The crook got away with an Apple laptop, Apple monitor, router, keyboard, external hard drive, a black watch and a brown Burberry purse. The crook stole a total of $5,377. No neighbors saw or heard anything unusual. 

Crook Boosts Cab

A quick-handed car thief boosted a livery cab left running on Butler Street on March 10.

The 48-year-old victim told police that he parked his taxi, a 2008 Nissan Rouge, on Butler between Third and Fourth avenues at around 7:15 a.m. However, he left the key in the ignition and left it running while he went to clock in at the taxi station. When he went back outside to get his car at around 7:35 a.m., it was gone. Cameras at the location show a man wearing blue baseball cap circle the vehicle twice before hopping in and driving away. There were no witnesses.
