Public Hearings on Futures of MTA, NYCHA Scheduled

Public hearings have been scheduled to review the future plans of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), according to Assemblyman James Brennan, D-44. 

Brennan is chair of the Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions, which will preside over the hearings. 

A hearing focused on obtaining oversight of the MTA will be held Jan. 11.

"This hearing will provide an opportunity for the Committee to obtain information regarding the future policies, planning and finances of the MTA," Brennan said in a statement.

MTA employees, representatives and individuals not associated with the organization are invited to provide public testimony and general information.

"This hearing will serve as an opportunity to publicly discuss and examine pertinent information relevant to the policies, finances and future plans of the MTA," Brennan's statement continued. 

Afterwards, on Jan. 18, a hearing will be held to review NYCHA's capital construction, facilities management and asset disposition policies.

"NYCHA’s $2.4 billion five-year capital program (2012–2016) is intended to provide much needed infrastructure improvements, rehabilitation of facilities, and ensure the overall financial stability of the Authority," the statement explained. 

The Committee also plans to review NYCHA's operating and capital programs to examine whether there is a need for greater transparency and accountability as the organization explores ways to diversify its funding in light of its continually operating with large capital and operating deficits.

Both hearings will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Manhattan, in the Assembly Hearing Room at 250 Broadway, Room 1923 on the 19th floor.
