SEE: Vegetarian Indian Food Pop-Up Joins Brooklyn's Third Avenue

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A selection of vegetarian Indian food has joined the list of summer dining destinations near Park Slope thanks to a new pop-up on Third Avenue, Patch has learned.

Brooklyn-based company Masala Mama has opened a pop-up location at Michael & Ping's Chinese restaurant, bringing a menu of vegetarian Indian dishes to the storefront through September, according to owners.

The pop-up, which opened last weekend, will include counter service, pick-up and delivery options at the restaurant, found between Seventh and Eighth streets.

“I’ve always dreamed of having a small Indian cafe that prepared the homestyle Indian food I grew up with. Now with the introduction of the pop-up I am thrilled to finally offer the Indian take-out and delivery to New Yorkers that I used to dream about ordering for myself,” Masala Mama owner Nidhi Jalan said.

The Masala Mama company specializes in homestyle vegetarian Indian cooking sauces and was born out of Jalan's desire for at-home Indian cooking when she moved from Calcutta to Brooklyn 15 years ago.

"The Indian takeout she sampled in New York simply couldn’t hold a candle to the exquisitely fragrant, warming, spice-rich dishes that she enjoyed in her childhood kitchen and around the tables of friends in Calcutta," according to a press release about the pop-up.

The Masala Mama pop-up will include a fully vegetarian and primarily plant-based menu inspired by the sauce line, including categories of “Entrees,” “Lentils and Beans,” “Chaat,” ”Salad and Raita,” “Bread and Rice,” and “Condiments.”

The pop-up will run from 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday through Sunday.

Pick-up and delivery orders can be placed via the Masala Mama website and on Doordash and Grubhub.
