South Slope Cyclist in Critical Condition After Tuesday Crash

The biker rode through a red light at 6th Avenue and 22nd Street, according to the NYPD.

SOUTH SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A South Slope cyclist was sent to the hospital in critical condition after being struck by a car Tuesday night, police said.

The 28-year-old biker rode through a steady red light at the intersection of 6th Avenue and 22nd Street shortly before 9:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The driver remained on the scene, and the cyclist was taken to Methodist Hospital with head trauma, according to the NYPD. At the time, he was listed in critical but stable condition. The spokeswoman said that no further information on the cyclists's condition was available as of Wednesday morning.

Through May of this year, 116 cyclists were injured in crashes at intersections in the Brooklyn, according to official police statistics, while one cyclist was killed at an intersection.
