Subway Rapist In Park Slope Cold Case Gets Up To 20 Years In Prison

The case was recently broken open after a DNA test.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn man who was recently convicted in a nearly 20-year-old Park Slope rape case was sentenced to an indeterminate term of 10 to 20 years in prison, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said Friday.

Johnny Jacob, now 45, raped a then-19-year-old girl on the Fourth Avenue-Ninth Street subway platform in March of 1998, according to the D.A.'s office. The girl was on her way to the first day of a new job.

Jacob wasn't arrested in connection with the rape until October of 2013, when a DNA test he took as part of a money laundering case matched him to the victim, the D.A.'s office said. He was convicted of the rape last month after a jury trial.

"What began as an exciting day headed to a new job turned into an absolute nightmare for this young woman who crossed paths with this violent predator," Acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a press release. "Thankfully, the DNA recovered that day was used to hold the defendant accountable for this horrific act and bring justice to his victim, who bravely testified against him at trial."
