Teen Charged With Murder Of 13-Year-Old On Bus In Staten Island: Reports

STATEN ISLAND, NY — A teen was charged with murder after the fatal stabbing of a 13-year-old on an MTA bus Friday in Staten Island, according to reports.
The suspect — a 14-year-old who police haven't publicly identified — was also charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, according to The New York Times. He remained in custody on Saturday, the news outlet reported.
A witness on the bus saw an argument unfold between the two male teens, who went to the same middle school, NYPD officials told media. The teens exchanged gang signs before the suspect stabbed the victim in the chest, according to ABC7 New York.

The victim has been identified as Syles Ular, ABC7 reports.
The incident occurred just before 2:30 p.m. Friday near Littlefield Avenue on Hylan Boulevard. People on the bus said the victim was stabbed as many as five times, according to ABC7.

Ular was taken to Staten Island University Hospital South, where he was pronounced dead, according to The New York Times.
The suspect fled the scene and ran about three blocks, before a retired police sergeant who happened to be in the area caught and held him, The New York Times reports. The retired officer pursued him after a bystander said he stabbed someone.
