THE STOOP: A Paratrooper, A Milk Bottle, A Wooden Bunny and Zebra, An Armless Robot and a Plastic Rock
Our weekly round up of Brooklyn stoop items.
This week the best treasures were all on one stoop. A Sloper put out three boxes, from toys for tots and to young kids.
The sign, posted on their stoop, read:Â
“Take This Stuff, Please Don’t Make A Mess! (Bedbug free, promise)”

The armless robot, or Stoobot, was probably the coolest toy in the collection. It’s eyes looked like camera lenses and had a general appearance not unlike R2D2.
A practical item was a bag filled with five Crayola crayons, ready for a pocket and to be whipped out during dinner at a restaurant with paper tablecloths.

On another street, a pair of Nike high tops in fair condition sat for about a week—maybe they weren’t trustworthy, for they did not come with a promise.
If you have been feeling imprisoned, then you should pick up “Poemcrazy,” a book by Susan G. WooldRidge. The cover said it just by reading it you would be “freeing your life with words.” Now that may be a better promise than “bedbug free.”
For the adventurous and playful type (or one who enjoys melting Army figurines with a magnifying glass), a paratrooper sat for the taking.
Have you forgotten that we all have unstable family members? Whether it’s your Uncle Joey (Uncle Mitch or Uncle Carl) or yourself, THE STOOP library got a new book that investigates the “forgotten illness” of Schizophrenia entitled, “Sanity, Madness and the Family” by R.D. Laing and A. Esterson.
New Yorkers are constantly reminded how clean our tap water is, but just to play it save—considering one of the nation’s most polluted bodies of water, the Gowanus, runs through our neighborhood—using a Brita water filter is never a bad idea.
A Sloper, who either got a new one, switched to the PUR facet filter which screws onto the facet itself or decided to go all natural, left an old Brita out for the taking.
