Turn Your Passion for Ice Cream Into Cold Hard Winnings
Park Slope's SkyIce is hosting its first ice cream eating contest on Nov. 19. Get your spoons ready.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Since Saturday, Nov. 19 is expected to be yet another beautiful, warm day, why not celebrate with some ice cream? More specifically, why not celebrate with some competitively consumed ice cream?
Park Slope ice cream specialist SkyIce, located at 63 5th Ave. will be hosting its first ice cream eating contest tomorrow, put on in conjunction with the Fifth Avenue Park Slope BID.
The day's festivities will begin at 1 p.m. with free ice cream samples, free coffee samples from nearby Gorilla Coffee, and a D.J.

The main event — officially known as the Brain Freeze Ice Cream Eating Contest — will start at 2 p.m., with competitors racing to finish a pint of SkyIce's Thai Tea ice cream as fast as possible.
SkyIce owner Jonathan Bayer said the flavor was the first one crafted by his wife, Sutheera, who is the creative force behind the business's treats.

Bayer said that about 7 competitors are already signed up, but there might be space for more, and he encouraged those interested to come by.
He also dismissed the idea that a pint of ice cream (that's 16 ounces, as you'll recall from elementary school) poses a challenge, explaining that his minimum serving is 32 ounces.
"I like my ice cream," he said confidently.
The winner of the contest will receive a $100 SkyIce gift certificate. But seriously, free ice cream samples for an hour? This is one of those situations where everyone wins.
