Union Hall Sets Reopening Date, Celebration

"The fire in March gave us an opportunity to do some renovations and everything looks amazing."

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Union Hall, the Park Slope bar and concert venue that closed in March after a devastating fire, will reopen on Friday, July 21, with a celebration that includes drink specials, live music and more.

"We are very excited to announce that the upstairs at Union Hall will reopen July 21, 2017," Union Hall said in a press release. "The fire in March gave us an opportunity to do some renovations and everything looks amazing. We can not wait for everyone to see it."

The fire tore through the cockloft in the venue the night of March 24 and caused significant damage to the bar's interior.

The bar, on Union Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, boarded up its storefront and posted a message on the front door letting people know what happened.

In May, concerts returned to the venue's basement, but the upstairs bar remained closed. Two fundraisers were held at the Bell House.

"As trying as this has been for us, we feel lucky that we are able to reopen and retain what makes Union Hall special. We have a few new couches but the same great vibe," owner Jim Carden said in a press release.

"This couldn't happen soon enough. We're so excited to throw open our doors and to welcome back the community. "

The reopening celebration will include "$3 Sixpoints, giveaways & other fun surprises!" A DJ will spin upstairs during happy hour starting at 5 p.m., while shows downstairs start at 8, followed by karaoke.

"Damage to the basement venue itself was minimal, which is why we were able to start hosting shows again back in May," booker Shannon Manning said in the release. "It has been great to have everyone back using our secret patio entrance, and will be even better to have the wonderful upstairs to enjoy before and after shows."
