Union Hall Throwing 'Reopening Celebration' Friday

A fire earlier this year scorched the bar's interior.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Union Hall is throwing a grand reopening party on Friday to celebrate its full return after a devastating fire earlier this year.

The popular Park Slope bar will hold its "reopening celebration" on Friday, July 21, with festivities starting as early as 1 p.m. The kitchen opens at 4, and an "extended happy hour with DJ Taela Naomi" runs rom 5 to 8 before the party moves downstairs.

Drink specials include three-dollar Sixpoints, and the night will feature giveaways and "other fun surprises," the bar says.

"As trying as this has been for us, we feel lucky that we are able to reopen and retain what makes Union Hall special. We have a few new couches but the same great vibe," owner Jim Carden said in a press release. "This couldn't happen soon enough. We're so excited to throw open our doors and to welcome back the community."

The bar's upstairs felt the brunt of the blaze, which broke out Friday, March 24, in the cockloft. The downstairs reopened for concerts on May 15.

A downstairs concert featuring The Nightowls, Courtesy Tier and Jessi Robertson starts at 8 on Friday, followed by karaoke at midnight.

"Damage to the basement venue itself was minimal, which is why we were able to start hosting shows again back in May," booker Shannon Manning said. "It has been great to have everyone back using our secret patio entrance, and will be even better to have the wonderful upstairs to enjoy before and after shows."
