Walk The Catwalk At Brooklyn Library With 'People's Ball' Return

BROOKLYN, NY — Get ready to strut your stuff, Brooklyn.

The Brooklyn Public Library is bringing back a celebration of personal style known as the People's Ball, which invites everyday New Yorkers to channel their inner supermodel and stomp a catwalk at the Central Library's grand lobby.

The People's Ball, which first debuted in 2018, will return to the library for its second edition in September, the library announced.

“As Brooklyn continues to open back up, we’re excited to welcome Brooklynites from all walks of life to the newly renovated Grand Lobby to celebrate the exceptional creativity and energy of our communities,” said László Jakab Orsós, Vice President of Arts and Culture at Brooklyn Public Library.

This year, the free event will feature Brooklyn Circus Founder Ouigi Theodore and high-fashion designer Makayla Wray, who will highlight local leaders in fashion.

Partygoers are invited to show off their ensembles on the catwalk for 15 minutes each hour and can dance to music from local DJs throughout the rest of the night, which will last from 7 to 11 p.m. on Sept. 12.

The event is meant as a contrast to ultra-exclusive fashion galas.

“BPL is committed to breaking down barriers and ensuring that all New Yorkers have the opportunity to experience the cultural riches that our great borough has to offer, and the People’s Ball offers a platform for the diversity of style, swagger, pride – and free, non-transactional and happy time together," Orsós said.

The People's Ball comes just months after the Central Library began its full reopening and revealed a $38 million renovation, including an upgrade to its grand lobby.

The library will announce special guests, hosts, DJs and food and drink specials as the event gets closer on its social media. Brooklynites are encouraged to RSVP to the ball.
