BROOKLYN, NY — A worker fell from the roof of a Brooklyn building Friday morning, prompting the Fire Department to call for an investigation into the building's site conditions.

The person fell from the rooftop of a one-story welding supply store, located on an industrial stretch of Third Avenue near the corner of 27th Street, about 9 a.m., fire officials said.

First responders rushed to the building and took the person, who was conscious at the time, to a nearby hospital, records show.

Fire officials initially reported that the person might have fallen or jumped from the rooftop, but a report filed with the Department of Buildings says that the worker fell.

The report, which was filed shortly after the fall at about 9:30, calls for an investigation into the site conditions of the building, to ensure that workers aren't being endangered.

It's unclear, however, what kind of work (if any) is going on at the building, since no construction permits have been filed since 2019.

Reached for comment around 10:30 a.m., a worker at the welding supply store declined to comment on construction at the building and said he wasn't aware that a person had fallen from the roof.
