Brookhaven Town Police Blotter: Oct. 14 to Oct. 20, 2024

BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — Suffolk police made arrests in connection with a burglary, the assault of two people, and a woman who flashed a knife in a fight, according to the department's logs.

Here's a snapshot from Oct. 14 to Oct. 20:

BROOKHAVEN

An East Patchogue man has been charged in connection with a burglary in Brookhaven on Oct. 14, police said.

Matthew Gonzalez, 39, threatened a homeowner on Bay Avenue, stole the person's wallet, and then fled just after 7 a.m., according to police. He was charged with burglary, police said.

Gonzalez pleaded not guilty and a temporary order of protection was issued at his arraignment, online court records show. Prosecutors requested his bail be set at $5,000, $100,00 insured bond, or $50,000 partially secured surety bond, but he was released on his own recognizance, according to the records.

CORAM

  • An 83-year-old Coram resident reported being bilked of $20,000 in a scam by people claiming to be from McAfee Total Protection Software on Oct. 15, police said. The person received an email claiming that money was accidentally transferred into their account, and gave a phone number for them to call and their bank account was accessed, according to police.
  • Another resident reported having $5,200 swiped by fraudsters hacking their Uber Eats account on Oct. 18, police said.

MASTIC BEACH

An arrest has been made in connection with the beating of two people on Neighborhood Road in Mastic Beach back in August, police said.

At around 3 a.m. on Aug. 14, one of the people was struck in the head, causing a cut that required treatment at a local hospital, according to police. Jonkeif Cousins, 42, of Manorville was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, police said.

Cousins pleaded not guilty at his arraignment, and a temporary order of protection was issued, online court records show. His bail was set at $25,000, $50,000 insured bond, or $250,000 partially secured surety bond, according to the records.

MEDFORD

Someone fled the scene of a crash at Waverly Avenue and Route 112 in Medford on Oct. 19, police said. An unknown vehicle struck a car and bolted from the scene at around 11:15 a.m.

MIDDLE ISLAND

A man brandished a knife at another after a fight broke out between the two in Middle Island on Oct. 14, police said.

The two had been on Lake Point Court at around 5 p.m., according to police. No arrest has been made. The incident has been classified second-degree menacing, police said.

LAKE RONKONKOMA

A Copiague woman was charged with second-degree menacing with a weapon after police say she threatened another woman in a fight in Lake Ronkonkoma on Oct. 18.

A fight broke out between the 30-year-old woman, and the other woman, 28, on Lake Shore Road at around 8:25 p.m., according to police. The woman's arraignment information was not available.
