8 Nabbed In Sobriety Checkpoint In Patchogue At Start Of Weekend: Police

Three hundred and thirty-eight people passed through the checkpoint Friday into Saturday, Suffolk police say.

PATCHOGUE, NY — Eight people were arrested out of 338 people who went through a sobriety checkpoint overnight between Friday and Saturday in Patchogue, Suffolk police said.

Officers from the department's Highway Patrol Bureau Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team, along with deputy sheriffs, conducted a joint sobriety checkpoint at Waverly Plaza on North Service Road, at around 11 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

Volunteers and staff from MADD and STOP DWI also helped by giving out educational information to motorists.

The following were charged with driving while intoxicated:

• A 30-year-old from Ridge.
• A 54-year-old from Bohemia.
• A 23-year-old from Central Islip.
• A 46-year-old from Patchogue.
• A 34-year-old from Seaford.
• A 36-year-old from West Babylon.
• A 32-year-old from Bay Shore.

A 31-year-old from Hempstead was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs.

The arrestees were scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
