Here are the top 5 stories today in Patchogue:

  1. HIA-LI, one of Long Island’s largest business advocacy organizations, praised the decision by Breeze Airways to select Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip as its base of operations in New York State — and to initiate nonstop service from the airport to Charleston, South Carolina and Norfolk, Virginia. The airline’s choice of Long Island MacArthur Airport follows closely on the heels of the October 2021 release of HIA-LI’s Long Island MacArthur Airport Survey. (LongIsland.com)
  2. For Bayport and Blue Point residents, going to their new library may feel like a religious experience. Set to open Saturday following a three-year transformation of the former St. Ursula Center convent on Middle Road in Blue Point, the library evokes the 40-year-old building's ecclesiastical history. (Newsday)
  3. Two men robbed at gunpoint a series of mostly 7-Elevens across five precincts in Suffolk County, police said Monday. The robberies started on Oct. 24 when two people went inside 7-Eleven in East Patchogue at about 12:40 a.m. and "displayed a gun and demanded cash," police said. Marcus Brown, 33, of Coram, and Jvon Creighton, 26, of Mastic, were arrested by the Major Case Squad following an investigation. Brown was arrested in front of his home on Sunday at about 10:15 a.m. and he was charged with seven counts of first-degree robbery. He was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday. (Patchogue Patch)
