Long Island Woman Arrested After Bogus Claim Men Were In House With Guns: Police
She called 911, prompting officers to surround her home, but there was no such intrusion, Suffolk police said.
WEST ISLIP, NY — A West Islip woman made a bogus claim men with guns were inside of her home, and a responding officer was involved in a crash on Friday afternoon, Suffolk police said.
The department's 911 operations received a call from Melissa O’Brien, who called from a neighbor’s house and reported two men with guns were inside of her Gladstone Avenue home at around 2:30 p.m., and when officers arrived, she repeated the information, prompting officers to surround the house.
A short time later, a family member got out of her home after seeing the police activity and told officers there was no one inside of the home, police said, adding that a search of the premises confirmed the statement.

An officer responding to the call was involved in a motor vehicle crash on Saxon Avenue and Union Boulevard in Bay Shore, police said.
The officer was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, but the other driver was not injured, according to police.

O’Brien, 32, was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor. She was issued a Field Appearance Ticket returnable to First District Court in Central Islip on July 6.
