Woman Arrested After Fleeing Fatal Suffolk Crash: PD

A motorcyclist died in the Patchogue crash this week, police say.

PATCHOGUE, NY — A woman was arrested Thursday after fleeing the scene of a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Patchogue this week.

According to Suffolk County police, Maria Guallpa-Bonilla, 36, of Bellport, was arrested after

striking Christopher Hlavaty, 22, while driving a 2001 Mercury Cougar at the intersection of Rider Avenue and Main Street on June 10 at about 10:45 p.m.

Hlavaty, of East Patchogue, was driving a 2008 Suzuki motorcycle north on Rider Avenue, turning left onto Main Street, when he was struck by Guallpa-Bonilla, who was traveling west on Main Street, police said.

Hlavaty was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital; he died from his injuries, police said.

Guallpa-Bonilla was charged with leaving the scene of an incident involving a fatality, police said. She was slated to be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday, police said.
