Driver Catches DWI After Brief Pursuit Of BMW On I-87: NYSP
He tried to flee, but heavy traffic stymied his plan, allowing troopers to speak to him and detect an alcohol odor, police said.

ORANGETOWN, NY — A fleeing suspect was stymied by New York traffic, according to state police in Rockland County.
New York State Police say that 34-year-old Alexis J. Santiago, of Nyack, was arrested on Monday for third-degree possession of a forged instrument, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer, driving while intoxicated, and other traffic violations.
On Monday, around 6:10 p.m., troopers started a pursuit of a BMW traveling north on I-87, near Exit 10, in the town of Orangetown.

Due to heavy traffic, the pursuit came to a stop, and troopers spoke to Santiago, the driver, and his passenger.
While speaking with Santiago, troopers say they noticed an alcohol odor.

He was then arrested and taken to Tarrytown for processing. Santiago was then turned over to police in Westchester County for warrants.
The Thruway was briefly shut down due to the incident.
