Rockland Country Day School will host “An Afternoon with Sarah Berkovits” on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. The event will take place in Putter Gymnasium beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Berkovits is the author of Guided Imagery with Children: Successful Techniques to Improve School Performance and Self-Esteem (Whole Person Associates, 2004). A teacher in the New York City school system for over 20 years, Berkovits developed a curriculum in guided imagery that is now used throughout the New York City public schools and in select independent schools.
Her approach emphasizes changing self-belief and self-perception, with the goal of helping struggling or disruptive students and their families improve academic and social behaviors. Children who see themselves as failures are guided to transform negative images into positive ones. In this way, they can successfully reverse many years of discouragement and disillusionment. Guided visualization takes little time to learn, and results are seen almost immediately.
