Eva's Divas Raising Funds Thursday for Cancer Walk

Eva's Divas will take a different path in their Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, making the journey to Santa Barbara, California Sept. 7 and 8 instead of doing the walk in New York City.

'"We had done New York for eight years and wanted to change it up for ourselves," said Debbie Paciello of Pearl River. "A bunch of us had never been to California. We thought we'd go to make it more exciting."

Before they can make that journey, they will hold their final fundraiser for this walk much closer to home 8 p.m. Thursday at T.F. Noonan's Pub in Pearl River. Prizes given out at the fundraiser include sports tickets and Luke Bryan concert tickets. They are requesting a $20 donation at the door. TD Bank and the Jewish Community Center were among the donors of tickets and Paciello pointed out T.F. Noonan's owner Larry Vergine's generosity in hosting the event.

"The fundraising is going great and we're expecting a huge crowd Thursday night," Paciello said.

Eva's Divas were renamed a few years ago for Eva Cobuzzi, a cancer survivor from Pearl River. Though Cobuzzi was first diagnosed in 2010, many of the members of the group have been taking part in Avon Walks long before that.

Pearl River residents Paciello, Peggy McGuinness and Cheryl Ward are in their eighth year doing the walk, having raised over $100,000 to donate to cancer education and research. Over 30 women have been part of the group at one time or another over the years.
