Giovanna's Perseverance Earns Shout Out As A Pearl River Star Student

PEARL RIVER, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from one of her parents, who nominated Giovanna of Pearl River.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

She’s currently 17 & her journey of determination & perseverance started when she almost died of Sepsis at 11 years old from a blood infection … As a competitive cheerleader she spent 1 year of extensive rehabilitation & faced many challenges at a young age. Her story is one of never giving up … She overcame a lot of negativity & surrounded herself with encouraging, motivating hardworking people.

Now 17 … she has achieved multiple National Championships with her Competitive cheer team, she devotes many hours volunteering with youth recreational cheer teams, & she also works with children of different abilities ... As a HS Junior she maintains her hard work at school looking toward her academic future, continues to compete Nationally, while maintaining her work & Community Service with youth groups …

Sometimes a child’s hard work goes unnoticed outside of the classroom, sometimes kids excel in many different areas outside the classroom & often goes unnoticed … So for this reason I’d like to nominate my daughter for never giving up … In this hard teenage world there’s always a way to forge your own path in life, be proud in all accomplishments & to never give up on any "small" or "big" achievements that will set the path on the journey of life.

Star students can be “Stars” in whatever personal achievements they set for themselves, to be proud, never give up & always know that each day is a new day.
