Hazardous Drainage System in Pearl River needs to be closed

Please sign the petition to get the Cherry Brook closed, which is a hazardous open drainage system.

(Cherry Brook overflowing onto Brightwood Avenue)

The Cherry Brook drainage system runs through Pearl River, NY. From Brightwood Avenue to Bogart Avenue, the drain is open. The Brook is often empty, posing a serious hazard for potential falls. The drain fills up rapidly during heavy rainfall, and the swift current could carry away a child or adult who were to fall into it. The closed drain downstream would render rescue efforts impossible. Over the years, the drain has resulted in frequent flooding and water damage to the nearby homes. The residents have been urging the town to close this open drain for over thirty years, yet it remains unresolved. A detailed engineering study was performed five years ago but despite this, the drain remains open and continues to cause floods, posing a dangerous hazard to our community.

This is a critical situation that demands immediate action. We cannot afford to wait for more severe injuries to occur. We need to close this drainage system now. Your support is crucial in this endeavor. Please sign this petition to protect our community and prevent the possibility of serious harm or worse!
