Hudson Valley Forecast: Sharply Colder

Meteorologists are watching the Lake Effect snow hitting western New York in case gusty winds blow any of it our way. Here's the latest.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The weather will turn sharply colder for the first part of the week, and there's a possibility that the region could see some snowflakes, local meteorologists agree.

That's because the Lake Effect is expected to dump 2-3 feet of snow on western New York. Snowfall rates could reach up to three inches per hour where the snow is heaviest, and wind gusts up to 35 mph are possible in locations near Lakes Ontario and Erie through Tuesday.

"With the snow machine turned 'ON,' our area has the ability to pick up a snow shower, flurry, or even quick moving snow squall between late this afternoon and Wednesday," Bruce Furbeck of First Due Weather said on Facebook Monday morning. "Highest probability for snowflakes occurs during Tuesday and Tuesday evening."
