One to 2 inches of snow is expected across the rest of the region, with amounts north of I-287 mostly below what the National Weather Service considers advisory criteria.

For Dutchess and Ulster counties, the NWS issued a hazardous outlook saying slippery conditions will occur on untreated surfaces, especially for areas near and south of I-90 where a general 1 or 2 inches of snow is expected.

"Folks, it’s a dry powdery snow which will make it very slippery. It’s not the 32°F, wet snow you’re used to, that has trouble sticking to the blacktop," Bruce Furbeck of First Due Weathe said on Facebook.

The snow will develop from southwest to northeast Friday morning, with the steadiest snow from noon – 6 p.m. Icy conditions are possible on untreated surfaces into Saturday morning.

Also, wind chill values may approach advisory criteria in the higher elevations in the mid-Hudson Valley, the NWS said.

"The storm exits near sunset… and behind the storm, the coldest air of the season rushes in, and overnight lows Friday night into Saturday are projected in the single digits… with wind chills near or below zero in the valley… and -5° to -15° in the Catsills," said the folks at Hudson Valley Weather. "Make sure you plan accordingly!!"

An Arctic air mass will keep temperatures below freezing through Monday morning, the NWS said. Over the weekend, wind chill values may again get close to advisory levels over higher terrain early Saturday morning and Saturday night into early Sunday.

Temps will climb above freezing Monday, then more wintry precipitation is predicted.
