Milder, Wetter Weekend In Store: Long Island Forecast

LONG ISLAND, NY — Rain is in the forecast Friday through Monday across Nassau and Suffolk counties, though some days will be wetter than others.

Saturday has the best chance for the least rain, as the National Weather Service calls for a slight chance of light rain or drizzle, the NWS predicts. Sunday could be wetter, with a 40 percent chance of rain in the daytime and increasing at night.

The cold temperatures will moderate, with Saturday in the mid-50s and Sunday also above 50 degrees F.

"As the flow of air flips from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, milder conditions will return, and temperatures will rebound to historical averages in much of the Midwest and Northeast into the weekend," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

Here's the 5-day forecast based on Suffolk County:

• Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 48. Southwest wind around 10 mph.
• Tonight - Mostly clear, with a low around 35. Southwest wind around 9 mph.
• Friday - A 50 percent chance of rain after 1pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 53. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph.
• Friday Night - Rain likely, mainly before 10pm, then a slight chance of drizzle or light rain after 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 41. West wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
• Saturday - A slight chance of drizzle or light rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Light and variable wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• Saturday Night - A chance of drizzle or light rain after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Sunday - A 40 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53.
• Sunday Night - Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
• Monday - A chance of rain before noon, then a chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
