Military Heroes Often Appear In Different Forms
When a tragedy of a military nature occurs, many more than the military member suffer the agony, the pain, the heart break & sadness
An expression of respect....
There is a lady who has been living in our community for many years, specifically in the hamlet of Blauvelt in Orangetown. Her name is Annie Murphy. Annie is loved by everyone for her smile, brighter than the sun, and a happy humorous sweet personality. Annie is rarely sad or regretful which I find inspiring, ergo this short story.
The story begins with her beloved husband John, who served in the Korean War and nearly lost his life but earned the Purple Heart. John also spent duty time in our national cemetery in Arlington and standing Guard on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He never regretted his Army service in both war and peace and lived with pride and patriotism.

Apparently his patriotism inspired his oldest son John to join the Marine Corps at the age of 18 and his youngest son Michael to follow after college in the footsteps of his Dad and Big Brother John. Michael was to make history. First as the personal pilot for President Clinton and as a Test Pilot in the development of the V-22 Osprey.
It is an American multi-mission, tilt rotor military aircraft with both vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and short takeoff and landing (STOL) capabilities. It is unlike any aircraft in the world and is the Marine Corps highest valued aircraft. But it came as a cost for the Murphys. Michael was killed test piloting the aircraft. He died with his crew. Michael died an American and Marine Corps Hero and a Hero son , brother, sister, husband & children.

So everyone can understand that when Annie, now a widow, needed a ramp on her home, the Rockland Marine Corps League was there for her. The Marine Corps League of Rockland County is a group of Former and Retired Marines that continue to uphold the traditions and ideals of the Marine Corps through service to the Community in which we live and our nation as a whole. The conclusion is that there are still individuals, families, organizations in our community and country who love America and do more than stand up for it. They bear their tragedies with dignity and strength. The Marine Corps is a virtual Family.
If you might feel inclined to make a most contribution to the cost of the ramp, not its construction, which will be built with volunteer labor, send a check to the Marine Corps League at 20 Station Road, Pomona, NY 10970.
