The Orangetown Council stopped Tuesday's workshop meeting for a moment of silence for the victims of the July 25 boating accident that left two people dead and four injured.
Lindsey Stewart and Mark Lennon, who were killed when they were thrown from the boat after it hit a construction barge, both grew up in Pearl River. Orangetown Councilman Denis Troy, a long-time Pearl River resident, spoke of the impact of the accident on all involved.
"It struck a particular chord in the community," Troy said. "What I’m looking for is a moment of silence for the two people who died, Mark Lennon and also Lindsey Stewart, but also for Brian Bond, who lost his wife to be. (The wedding was to be) coming up this Saturday. Also the driver of the boat, Jojo John. And all the families involved because their lives are changed forever. And their friends. It has impacted them. It has impacted the community."
